P. much what it says on the tin. Talk about movies you have watched recently here! Maybe you will find some recommendations! Maybe you will be exposed to the utter dreck I usually watch! Maybe someone else watches garbage as well! Life's rich tapestry!

I recently saw the new Resident Evil film by Barbarian/Weapons director Zach Cregger, and I am giving it the full two thumbs up. Best Resident Evil movie ever made, and also just a good movie in general. 95 minutes of goopy action horror with Cregger's trademark sense of humor. Felt like a real RE love letter while doing its own thing and story.

I had a shit day today so now I am watching Mermaid which is a movie about terrible people in Florida and also mermaids. The entire cast is made up of guys and gals who made their careers being ugly or gross bit parts and side characters in sitcoms, everything's sunburnt and bleached, it's great and just the right mood currently.

What have you all watched recently?

Ok, another to add to my rolling list of movies that I want to watch but need to shake my ADHD into doing lol

The last movie I saw was the Nic Cage film he did with Pedro Pascal-- uhhh The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. Does a shockingly good job at demonstrating the Parasocial relationship and how it can enable personality disordered types and somehow there is still opportunity to self-improve. Did it intend to send that message? Who knows? Who cares. It's funny.

IT'S OCTOBER! Me and a few close friends do a bunch of horror movie watch-a-thons, we pool together to make up 30-40 different categories such as "movie from the 50s", "movie's poster is color green" and "movie stars B-movie legend Cameron Mitchell", and then see how many different categories we can fill up in a month. I am excited, I've got a pretty exciting slate of films to potentially show off to my mates!

But tonight is not a watch-a-thon and I could not really fit this one neatly into too many of our categories so I am watching it on my own, it's called Ghost In The Cell from long-time Indonesian director of supernatural horror Joko Anwar, and I have been grinning like a madman throughout most of it. The basic premise is like "Shawshank Redemption" meets "Hellraiser", where an extremely violent supernatural force infiltrates an Indonesian prison with a large cast of inmate characters and wreaks havoc. All of this is glazed in a healthy dose of Indonesian comedy and social commentary that veers from (my POV) campy to incomprehensible. Roaring body horror fun, but definitely not for a more squeamish audience because despite the overall light and irreverent tone the VFX are at times really disturbing.
